At the end of the narrow tan
path the sea spread
to the horizon, then curved
from sight. The further
I walked the path the further
the horizon receded,
so that even the nearer to it I went
it remained just as far.
I thought a boat.
I set the thought to sea.
Surely the thought would get me to
the horizon that was ever receding?
But, no. I never did
get any nearer.
The boat of thought escaped my mind,
and sailed away with
the ever-receding horizon,
over the curving edge,
leaving me where I stood.
Mind over matter
proved a sham after all.
