The author is pleased to announce the safe delivery in Eton by the George Inn of a baby blue plaque which weighed-in at a healthy fifteen inches yesterday at 14:20 BST. Pub and plaque are both doing well.
And so, the plaque’s progress concluded yesterday, 7th October, a mere 398 days of gestation since conception on 6th September last year. The sun shone and the rain shrank away when Team George sprung into action like a Swiss watch; it was all over in a matter of minutes. Jim held the ladder, Ian did the business and I simply looked on and pinched myself.
I serendipitously discovered on Sunday that, in collaboration with Windsor old boy, Adam Robbings of Ruben’s Brews in Seattle, the Windsor and Eton Brewery who manages the George Inn, brews a full flavoured beer every January called “Seattle Porter”. To be honest, George Pocock would probably stick with Coca-Cola, but we can all raise a glass of our favourite tipple and salute Seattle’s finest.
Here’s to George Yeomans Pocock, master boat builder and champion sculler: CHEERS!
