World Rowing announced on its website yesterday that the World Championships for Under 19 and Under 23 will take place in Varese, Italy, on 25-31 July.
Following extensive discussions with all key stakeholders, including the Italian public health authorities, the World Rowing Executive Committee, Italian Rowing Federation and Organising Committee confirm (OC) that, given the current evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic at this time, the 2022 World Rowing Under 19 & Under 23 Championships in Varese, Italy, can take place safely as planned between 25 and 31 July 2022.
In line with World Rowing guidance, and guidance from the local public health authorities, the OC will prepare a detailed COVID-19 Response Plan which will be published online at www.vareserowing.com no later than 27 May 2022. The response plan will outline all preventative measures to be undertaken and all testing requirements upon arrival and during the event. World Rowing and the OC are confident that the measures planned to be in place are appropriate to minimise the risk of transmission and infection at the event.
Each Member Federation is responsible to exercise maximum care for its team members before, during and after the event. All participants must follow the measures in the OC COVID-19 Response Plan at all times, including the latest requirements on mask wearing, social distancing and other measures published by the OC. More details will be published soon.
To protect the health of all participants, anyone not adhering to the participation conditions may, at the discretion of the World Rowing Executive Committee, face sanctions, including possible immediate disqualification and exclusion from the event.
World Rowing and the Varese OC continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and the latest public health recommendations. Any further updates will be communicated to the Member Federations directly.
