USRowing Team to Under 23 Championships

USRowing has announced the 68-person roster of the 2021 Under 23 National Team that will compete at the 2021 World Rowing Under 23 Championships on 7-11 July in Racice, Czech Republic.

USRowing writes on its website:

The U.S. will have 22 crews competing at the five-day event. Events include the men’s and women’s single sculls, lightweight single sculls, double sculls, lightweight double sculls, quadruple sculls, lightweight quadruple sculls, pair, lightweight pair, four, four with coxswain and eight.

Fran Raggi, Alexandria Vallencey-Martinson, Teal Cohen and Kelsey McGinley will be doubling up in Racice in the women’s four and eight.

Eight athletes return for the 2019 team including lightweight women’s single sculler Brigid Kennedy, who will be racing at her fifth World Rowing Under 23 Championships. Kennedy finished fourth in the lightweight single in 2019. Peter Chatain, Cohen, Collin HayEmily MolinsNathan PhelpsCooper Tuckerman, and Michael Wilson also return to the team. Molins won a silver medal in the lightweight women’s pair, while Cohen won a bronze medal in the women’s four.

The U.S. roster includes athletes from 20 states and England. Connecticut and New York lead the way with nine athletes each. Twenty-three colleges and universities are represented on the roster, with Yale University and Dartmouth College leading the way with seven team members each.

At the 2019 World Rowing Under 23 Championships held in Sarasota, Florida, the U.S. won medals in seven events including gold in the lightweight men’s single sculls; silver in the women’s single sculls, men’s eight and lightweight women’s pair; and bronze in the women’s eight, women’s four, and lightweight women’s quadruple sculls.
