Tim Koch on how HTBS hopes to assist readers to KBO.

The ‘c’ word, coronavirus, is obviously dominating everyone’s thoughts and actions at present. This begs the question, is there currently a place in the lives of our readers for something as ultimately inconsequential as a slightly eccentric website on rowing? Though biased, I would hope that the answer is ‘yes’. HTBS has always aspired to inform and entertain. The amount of information that we can give regarding the current state of the sport amounts to the fact that Covid-19 has stopped it. Fortunately, this information void still leaves us with the second part of our raison d’être, that is to entertain.

Particularly when many of us may be alternating between stress and boredom, if HTBS can raise a wry smile for a few minutes with something amusing or quirky, odd or interesting, then its continuation in these difficult times can be more than justified. In what we have christened ‘The Dry Season Bottom-of-the-Barrel Series’, we will be producing new posts with this remit and we will also be going through the archive and reposting some old pieces that we hope will bring some cheer, however fleeting.

In the darkest days of the Second World War – when the world was facing an even bigger threat then now – Churchill had a habit of ending phone calls or meetings with ‘KBO’ — an acronym for ‘Keep Buggering On’. Eighty years on, it’s once again good advice.
